Welding Procedure Specification- WPS for Overlay or cladding

Image
Welding Procedure Specification- WPS This document details, how to qualify a welding procedure specification-wps for weld metal overlay / cladding / surfacing , for both corrosion resistance overlay and wear resistance overlay welding. The reference standard selected for the purpose of qualification of cladding procedure and welder qualification is ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) section IX. Step by step procedure for WPS preparation: Select the sample size (thickness of base metal) Prepare the test sample Weld the overlay / cladding over the test sample with appropriate filler metal Carry out the testings on the weld overlay as mentioned in the standard, Non Destructive Testing ( NDT ) & Mechanical Testing Prepare the Procedure qualification record ( PQR ) Prepare the Welding Procedure Specification ( WPS ) with ranges qualified for production Welder Qualification For the welder performed the PQR qualification test prepare the Welder certificate For additional we...

Welding Inspections- All you need to know about Metals

Image
Welding is a process of joining similar metals, i.e. Metals with same base content and similar properties or melting point. There are different types of welding methods based on the process of welding. Generally it involves heating of the metal and fusing them, with or without additional filler metal. The content below answers your questions: What are the types of Base metals? What is Carbon Steel and what is Alloy Steel? What is purpose of alloying element in steel? How are steels classified? Different Base metals in general industry are :- Steel: Low Carbon Steel – C 0.05 to 0.3 % (ex: AISI 1005, 1008 etc) Medium Carbon Steel – C 0.3 to 0.8 % High Carbon Steels – C > 0.8 % (ex. A 36) Alloy Steel – (Cr, V, Co, Mo, Ni, Nb, Ti, W, V, Zr etc.) Stainless Steel (ex: SS304, SS 316 L, etc) Cast Iron – C >2% Aluminum Copper, Brass Titanium Magnesium Alloys Why is Alloying Element added in steel? Alloying elements are added to achieve a spe...

How to get Welder Certificate?

Image
Welder Certificate is a document that shows ability of a welder to make a quality weld in a particular welding process. The Certificate also denotes on which type of welding material and which position the welder is able to perform. A full penetration weld can be performed by welder who is qualified for full penetration & fillet. A welder qualified by vertical position (3G) can perform Flat and vertical in production and so on. These qualification ranges are mentioned in the certificates after referring the applicable codes and standards. Welders are qualified for different process individually. Welding process: Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)- Arc Welding Tungsten Inert Gas Welding (TIG/GTAW)- Arc Welding Metal Inert Gas Welding (MIG)- Arc Metal Active Gas welding (MAG)- Arc Flux Cores Arc Welding (FCAW)- Arc Electric Resistance welding (ERW) and Lot more.. Welding Qualification standards are given in AWS D 1.1 – Structural Welding ...
